Oppose deadly “reform”

POSTED: October 28, 2009

To the editor,

Now is the time to act if you oppose deadly health care "reform." By this I mean the rationing of health care and the expansion of abortion. President Obama has said proposed health care reform would not cover abortion, but he has also declared abortion to be "essential care" and all of the health care bills require coverage of "essential care." So federal tax dollars would be paying for abortions, and government funding of abortions increases the number of abortions.

On health care rationing, patients die when medical care is delayed or denied. This is a reality in countries that ration care. Congressional leadership hired the pro- euthanasia group. Compassion and Choices, to write the health care language on denial of care to elderly, disabled and very ill citizens.

Our president said his "biggest mistake" as a U. S. Senator was for voting to protect Terri Schiavo from being starved to death by her husband in 2005. There seems to be a lot of double talk in these reform bills. Our president and top Democrats in Congress are not being completely honest in their presentation of the reform bills. There were amendments presented to the reform committees by pro-life groups that would explicitly exclude abortion and health care rationing. These amendments were defeated in committees. Why would they not include these amendments if, as they say; the reform plans do not fund abortions or health care rationing?

Now is the time to call and/or write your lawmakers and do so immediately. Our elected officials need to know that we oppose health care reform that does not explicitly prohibit the rationing of health care and the expansion of abortion. These bills may be voted on in the next few weeks.

Abortion isn't illegal, get over it. I'm sorry this Democratic president doesn't meet your religious standards, but you can't always get what you want. No one is going to die from rationed care. However, people are dying from an inability to get good care. Oh, but you must be insured and never had a problem. I, too, am fortunate to be insured. But it doesn't make me an expert on healthcare.
