NEW ULM - The Monument Brass Ensemble's 4th Annual Fall Concert will include a few new wrinkles on Wednesday, Oct. 21 in the former New Ulm Middle School auditorium.
In addition to the group's usual marches, an excerpt from the opera "Carmen," a novelty piece "The Whistler and His Dog," plus a swing tune, new march and maybe a polka or two will be performed according to band leader Sam Arsers of New Ulm.
The group includes professional and semi-professional musicians from South Central Minnesota.
Current members include trumpet players Andy Siegmann and Sam Arsers, both of New Ulm and Don Jirak, Sleepy Eye; Bob Lintelman on tuba, Dick Bowdin, trombone and June Bowdin, French horn, all of Fairmont; plus percussionist Scott Peterson of Kasota.
After being inactive for a number of years, the group was re-organized in 2005.
Monument Brass has performed at such events as Bavarian Blast, New Ulm; in the River Hills Mall, Mankato; United Way fund-raisers, private parties, at summer concerts in New Ulm's German Park and at special church services in New Ulm and Hutchinson.
Support for this year's concert was obtained from the Prairie Lakes Regional Arts Council from funds appropriated by the Minnesota Legislature.
Concert tickets are $4 and available at the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 132, New Ulm; and at the door.
