Eagle girls soccer team wins 2-0
FAIRMONT - New Ulm defeated Fairmont 2-0 in South Central Conference girls soccer action Thursday at Fairmont.
In the first half, Lydia Balge scored on an assist from Micayla Irmiter to put the Eagles up 1-0.
The Eagles added a goal in the second half when Angie Serbus scored on an assist from Peyton Lewis.
Amber Konakowitz had three saves in the first half and Ruth Ann Illikman had four saves in the second half. New Ulm had 28 shots on goal and Fairmont managed only seven shots on goal.
New Ulm (6-5-1, 2-2 in SCC) is at Glencoe-Silver Lake Saturday.
Eagles tennis defeats River Valley, 4-3
SLEEPY EYE - The New Ulm girls tennis team won the Battle for Brown County with a 4-3 victory over River Valley Thursday.
New Ulm won first and second singles and first and second doubles. Plus two of the three matches the Eagles did lose went to a third set.
At No. 1 singles, Hannah Stark beat Melissa Tauer 6-4, 6-1 and Emily Steinman beat Bridget Mathiowetz 6-1,6-2.
New Ulm's No. 1 doubles team of Leah Nelsen and Trisha Johnson beat River Valley's Kristina Busch and Shelley Roiger 6-3, 6-2. The Eagles other victory came at No. 2 doubles with Anna Laitinen and Meghan King beating Stacia Briard and Amanda Holkesvig 6-1, 6-3.
For River Valley, Stef Havenmeier defeated Morgan Zollner at No. 3 singles 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. Brenna Davidson defeated Whitney Mielke 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
The Wildcats other win came at No. 3 doubles with Anie Holkesvig and Tricia Shumate defeating Wiebke Neuhaus and Kara Hendrickson 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
New Ulm (3-13) hosts Martin County West Monday. River Valley (2-12) travels to Madison Saturday for a tournament.
Scholtz leads S/CM/C
JACKSON - Emily Scholtz led the Springfield/Cedar Mountain girls cross country team by finishing in 13th place with a time of 16:24. The team finished sixth place overall.
Megan Lipetzky finished 25th for S/CM in 17:13. Elizabeth Groebner was 44th in 18:14, Morghan Trebesch 45th in 18:24, Emily Vogel 64th in 20:08, Meghan Plotz 67th in 20:10 and Sarah Reiner 69th in 20:13. Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin won the meet.
Logan Kopischke led the S/CM boys in 25th place in 19:03 and Stephen Ewers was right behind him in 26th with a time of 19:06. The team finished in 8th place overall.
Dominic Olson got 46th in 20:32, Tyler Larson 55th in 21:16, Jacob Anderson was 56th in 21:17, Travis Watje 61st in 21:54 and Todd Anderson was 64th in 22:01. Jackson County Central won the meet.
