NEW ULM - Robert "Bob" Bruckmeir, 66, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at his home in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be10:30 a.m., onSaturday, Sept. 12, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father Mark Steffl celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be4-7 p.m.on Friday and will continue from 7:30 to 10 a.m.on Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Bruckmeir of New Ulm; his mother, Elizabeth Weinzierl of New Ulm and the late Anton Bruckmeir; daughters and sons-in-law, Shari and Jon Valek of Buffalo and Gina and Chip Radke of Minnetrista; grandchildren, Taylor Valek, Nolan Radke, Abby Valek, Ellie Radke, Carli Radke andEmma Valek.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1943,during WWII.

Robert Anton Bruckmeir was born on July 24, 1943 to Anton and Elizabeth (Holler) Bruckmeirin Munich, Germany. In 1958 Robert and his mother moved to the U.S and he became a citizen in 1964. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1963. Robert then attended Worthington Community College, before graduating from Mankato State University with a Bachelor's Degree. On July 1, 1967 he was united in marriage to Mary Mennenga at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington. In 1967 he began student teaching at New Ulm Public Schools and was later hired as a full-time teacher. Robert retired in 2000.

Robert enjoyed reading, working,bike riding, and photography,earlymorning coffee withfriends,traveling to Europeand listening to European music. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm and the Alpha Mu Gamma Fraternity, which is a foreign language honor society.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice
