Springfield blanks Madelia, Thunderbirds sweep EVW

Springfield 3, Madelia 0

SPRINGFIELD - Springfield swept Madelia Tuesday 25-23, 25-13, 25-23 in nonconference volleyball play.

For the Tigers Katie Timm was 11-for-11 serving with three aces and 14 set assists, Tiana Runck was 10-for-11 serving with five kills and 11 digs.

Mattie Pieschel, also for Springfield was 15-for-17 serving with four aces, 12 digs and four kills. Morgan Hansen was perfect on serving and had three aces and seven kills.

Springfield (2-1, 0-0) plays Wabasso Tuesday at home and Buffalo Lake-Hector next Thursday in Tomahawk Conference play.

GFW 3, EVW 0

EDEN VALLEY - Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop swept Eden Valley-Watkins 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 in nonconference volleyball action Tuesday.

For GFW, Lexi Platz had nine kills and four blocks and Cheyenne Briese had eight kills and 15 digs. Stephanie Howe had 12 set assists and Jamie Katzenmeyer had 10 set assists.

Mikell Melius had 13 digs and Kayla Schuette was 14-for-14 serving with three aces.

Cedar Mountain/Comfrey 3, Wabasso 0

COMFREY - Cedar Mountain/Comfrey swept Wabasso Tuesday night in Tomahawk Conference play 25-16, 25-18, 25-20.

For the Rabbits, Jordan Martin had seven aces and Kimberly Frank had eight set assists. Morgan Samyn had nine set assists, five kills and 11 digs, Paige Pistulka had five kills.

For CM/C, Nicole Kerkhoff had seven kills and seven digs and Beth Ochs had seven set assists. Kate Robinson had eight digs and Corrie Tews had 15 service points. Jessie Reel had 13 service points and six set assists.

Wabasso (0-2, 0-1) next plays Tuesday at Springfield in Tomahawk Conference play.

Cedar Mountain/Comfrey also plays Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Lutheran.

St. Mary's 3,

Sleepy Eye 2

SLEEPY EYE - Sleepy Eye dropped a close decision to cross-town rival St. Mary's Tuesday.

Game scores were 23-25, 25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 15-11.

Sydney Remus led the way for the Indians with 22 set assists, 24 digs and 11 kills. Erica Jensen had 12 digs and 15 kills. Melissa Falk had 18 digs and 10 kills, Carissa Hillmer had 24 assists and 12 digs

Sam McMullen and Amanda Neidecker had 10 digs and Paige Walter had eight kills.

Sleep Eye (0-3) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Thursday.
