Sleepy Eye Orlean Anderson, 93, of Sleepy Eye, died Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 1 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with Rev. Bruce Naumann officiating. Burial will follow in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4:00 7:00 p.m. Monday at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Orlean Emma Schreyer, the daughter of Otto and Clara (Falk) Schreyer, was born March 29, 1916 on the family farm in Milford Township. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed April 16, 1930 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. She attended District 15 country school in Milford Township. In her youth, she was active in 4-H and Farm Bureau plays. Orlean was united in marriage to Verle J. Anderson March 24, 1940 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. The couple farmed together in the Sleepy Eye and Hanska areas. They moved to Sleepy Eye after they retired in 1992. After Verle's death in 1994, Orlean continued to make her home in Sleepy Eye. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served with the Women of Grace. Orlean enjoyed baking, gardening, flower arranging, singing with her sisters, playing cards, drawing, going to the lake, visiting with friends, and playing with her grandkids. She was especially proud of her two grandsons. Orlean became a resident of the Luther Memorial Home in January of 2004. She is sadly missed by her daughter and family.
Survivors include her daughter LaFaye Wellmann and her husband Allen of Madelia; grandchildren Chad Wellmann and his wife Ann of Lino Lakes, Kyle Wellmann of Hanska; two great-grandchildren, Meghan and Aaron Wellmann; sister Luverna Juni of New Ulm; sister-in-law Peggy Schreyer of Madelia; nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Eldor, Reuben, Roman, Lester and Gilbert Schreyer; sisters, Erna Schulz and Ione Larson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
