NEW ULM - Tuesday night with the score tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning, New Ulm Kaiserhoff had a chance to win the game with a key hit with the bases loaded and one out.
They failed to do that but in the top of the 10th, Austin got the job done.
Back-to-back doubles from Jon Kirby and Clint Ripley and a run-scoring single off of the bat of Joey Swatzfager scored two runs and lifted Austin to an 8-6 win in a Southern Minny League game.
Matt Rasso got the win for Austin.
Tony Mielke was tagged with the loss for New Ulm now 8-14.
Eric Austvold had four hits for the Kaiserhoff with Cory and Brady Ranweiler each collecting three hits.
Schwatzfager led the Greyhounds with four hits.
"What the game boiled down to was they got the hit when they needed it and we did not," Kaiserhoff manager Dick Wellmann said. "We had the bases loaded in the ninth inning and could not get it done. I thought about squeezing but there was a force all the way around."
Kaiserhoff, which has a big game in Marshall tonight, scored two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Cory Ranweiler and a Brady Ranweiler base hit and error.
Austin knotted the game in the third on a double by Clint Ripley, an error and a fielder's choice.
New Ulm matched that with two runs in the home half of the inning on a Cory Ranweiler RBI double and an Eric Starke single for a 4-2 lead.
Kaiserhoff took a 5-2 lead in the fourth when Tyler Morgan scored on an Austvold single.
But the Greyhounds pushed across four runs in the fifth for a 6-5 lead.
Kaiserhoff bounced back to tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth and had a chance to win the game.
Ben Wolf was hit by a pitch and both Cory and Brady Ranweiler singled. A one out walk to Jace Marti forced in a run. But Kaiserhoff was unable to score another run in the ninth.
