NEW ULM - German musicians didn't seem to mind the cooler weather Friday as Bavarian Blast began at the Brown County Fairgrounds.
Schwabenmusikanten, which plays traditional bavarian music with a variety of brass and woodwind instruments, comes from Schwabisch Gmund, just east of Stuttgart.
In that area, average July temperatures are in the low to mid 60's Fahrenheit, which wasn't far from the Friday afternoon temperature here.
"I warned them that the weather here in mid July would likely be hot and humid, weather that might bother then a bit," said the band's travel host, Otto Werner of New Ulm.
The band has been to New Ulm a number of times before.
It's leader, tenor horn player and singer Robert Neiszer has been to New Ulm with the band and as a member of other bands.
He said the weather was fine.
Some Blast-goers wore jackets while others paid no attention to the cooler weather with their garb.
Neiszer said he's been to the United States nine times plus a tour of Brazil that included gigs from Rio to Buenos Aires.
The band's previous gigs included Chicago, Clark County, New Jersey, Las Vegas, Hartford, Conn., and Toronto to mention a few.
After Bavarian Blast, Werner will accompany Schwabenmuskanten performances in Wausau, Wis. on Wednesday, July 22; at the new Watertown, (Mn) Civic Center on July 23; and in Fargo, N.D. next weekend.
