Motorcyle run benefits NUACS

NEW ULM - "Friends of NUACS" will host their fifth Annual Motorcycle/Car Poker Run on Sunday, July 12.

Registration will take place in the Lamplighter Parking Lot between noon and 1 p.m. The ride will end at the Searles Bar & Grill with door prizes and a delicious meal.

The cost is $25 per bike or car and $10 per rider. Proceeds benefit the Cathedral High School Athletic Department.

Breakfast on the Farm

NEW ULM - "Breakfast on the Farm" will be coming to town in New Ulm on Saturday, July 11, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Youth Coliseum at the Brown County Fairgrounds.

Breakfast will be served for a free-will offering. Profits will be donated to the Nicollet and Brown County Food Shelf.

In addition to breakfast there will be a petting zoo, farm safety activities and a farm equipment demonstration.

Sponsors include Nicollet and Brown County Farm Bureaus, Brown County Corn and Soybean Board, Nicollet and Brown County Dairy Associations, Nicollet County Pork Producers, New Ulm and Sleepy Eye FFA Chapters, New Ulm Farm-City Hub Club, Potters Implement, 4-H, Hy-Vee, AgStar Financial, AMPI, NU Telecom, Waldbaum's and KNUJ Radio.

Still time to register for State Fair Amateur Talent Contest

ST. PAUL - Only two weeks remain until registration closes for State Fair Amateur Talent Contest Auditions. Performers from across the Midwest will have an opportunity to perform and compete in the 37th annual competition.

A total of $7,325 in prize money will be awarded to the first- through third-place winners in three divisions. Entries are being accepted for all age groups. Age categories are: Open Division, for any age; Teen Division, ages 13-18; and Preteen Division, ages 12 and under.

Auditions for the amateur talent contest run Monday, July 20 through Sunday, July 26 at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell on the fairgrounds. Auditions begin at 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. From auditions, semi-finalists will be selected to perform during the Minnesota State Fair.

During the first 10 days of the fair, semifinals will be held nightly at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell. Winners from the semifinals will compete in the finals at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Grandstand.

The 2009 Minnesota State Fair runs Thursday, Aug. 27 through Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Auditions for Prairie Fire Children's Theater's 'Peter Pan'

NEW ULM - There are still openings for this years Prairie Fire Children's Theatre production of "Peter Pan," which will be held the week of July 13-18 in the Jefferson Elementary gymnasium.

There is no cost for participants and this live theatre opportunity is open to all students entering grades 3-9 in the upcoming school season. Sixth through ninth grade students will audition and rehearse Monday through Thursday mornings from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. while third through fifthgrade students will audition and rehearse Monday through Thursday afternoons from 1 to 5:15 p.m. The 6th-9th grade performance will be held on Friday evening July 17, at 7 p.m. while the 3rd-5th grade performance will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday July 18. Birthday Party for seniors planned

NEW ULM - CAST (Community and Seniors Together) and LSS Senior Nutrition will sponsor a birthday party for seniors at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15 at the Community Center, located at 600 N. German St.

Seniors, if you are celebrating a birthday in July the Senior Center welcomes you to celebrate with other seniors and friends. Entertainment will be provided by Dick and Joe Ness. Reservations may be made by calling 359-2243.

Free blood pressure checks for seniors set

NEW ULM - CAST (Community and Seniors Together) will sponsor Brown County Health Nursing Service for blood pressure checks beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 13 at the New Ulm Community Center.

The blood pressure checks are offered free of charge on a walk-in basis.

Movie night CAST Fundraiser scheduled

NEW ULM - Movie night CAST Fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 at the New Ulm Community Center.

The featured movie will be "The Rat Pack" plus Bing Crosby and "Robin and the Seven Hoods." Admission plus popcorn will be $2 (donation). Costumes are optional.

Counseling offered to seniors July 16

NEW ULM - CAST (Community And Seniors Together) will sponsor Sally Webster from Minnesota River Area Agency on Counseling at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 16.

Information, education, counseling and one-to-one Aging Health insurance beneficiaries for issues related to medicare, insurance, public assistance for Medicare will be provided. Also, questions about benefit Programs and long term care will be answered on Medicare and insurance payments or if forms need about purchasing insurance.

These services are provided free at the Senior Center or in your homeif mobility is a problem. If you have questions call 354-3212 or 1-800-333-2433.

CAST offers four hour refresher class

NEW ULM -CAST - Community And Seniors Together (a United Way Agency), Dist. 88 Community Education and AARP will sponsor a four hour refresher 5 5 - Alive Safety Driving course from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29 at the New Ulm Community Center.

Students must have taken the eight-hour class prior to enrolling in a refresher course. The class is $15.00 and payable the day of class but you must register by calling 354-3212. Classes fill quickly, but are offered monthly ... so do not delay calling in your registration.

Seniors Chat offered July 20 at Senior Center

NEW ULM - Volunteer For Seniors Of Brown County and Community and Seniors Together offers a "Seniors Chat" providing individual information, referral and counseling to seniors at 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 20 at the New Ulm Senior Center.

Julie Terrell, Caregiver Educator, will be available to discuss caregiver's concerns and provide information on resources. There are no fees, and no appointment is necessary. This program is made possible under the Federal Older Americans Act through a grant from the Minnesota River Development Commission/Area Agency on Aging.

Legal counseling set

NEW ULM - Questions about Legal issues? Legal Counseling, on a one-to-one basis, is offered at at 11 a.m. on July 16.

CAST will host local the New Ulm Community Center concerns and questions. There are no fees for this. Attorneys to assist Senior Citizens with counseling and clients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
