MANKATO - A 23-year-old man from Hoonduras drowned Saturday in Hiniker Pond.

Blue Earth County authoiries recovered the man's body at about 6 p.m. Saturday, almost an hour after they had been called about a possible drowining.

The victim and another man had attempted to swim across the pond. They got part way across before turning around to return to shore. The victim was seen going under about 150 feet from shore. Onlookers swam out to try to rescue him, but were unable to find him underwater.

The man, who had been staying with relatives in St. Peter, had been in the Mankato area for the last four days, according to the Blue Earth County Sherrif's Office. Identification is being withheld while relatives are notified.
