Truck, DM&E locomotive collision

Larry Kronback, 57, of Lamberton, was seriously injured at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday when his southbound 1997 International semi truck and gravel trailer collided with an eastbound Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern (DM&E) locomotive on County Highway 2, 2 miles south of Highway 14. Kronback was taken to Springfield Hospital and airlifted to North Memorial Hospital, Robbinsdale. Springfield firefighters assisted at the scene. The truck and trailer were demolished.

Mike French of New Ulm was operating the locomotive at the time of the accident. The locomotive was not pulling any railcars.

Darrell Palmer of Mankato was conductor of the locomotive. French and Palmer were not injured.

The incident is under investigation by the Brown County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
