GIBBON - Milton Black, 82, of Gibbon, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor Michael Gorte officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full graveside military honors conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue on Tuesday for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church.

Milton is survived by his wife, Donna Black of Gibbon; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Doug Scherer of Gibbon, Amy and Paul Houlihan of San Diego, California; son, Dave Black of Gibbon; grandchildren, Cassie, Brady, Bryce, Kelly, Megan, and Erin; step-mother, Rose Black of Sleepy Eye; sisters and brother-in-law, Marella and Howie Larson of New Ulm, Lorna Kocourek of Lester Prairie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Darwin and JoAnn Black and Ed-Vern and Sharon Black of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Ruth Black of Fairfax and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marfield Black and infant brother, Loren.

Milton Wayne Black was born on November 23, 1926 in Wellington Township, Renville County to Albert and Mabel (Deterling) Black. He served in the military during World War II from 1944 to1946 as a tank commander and German interpreter. On November 10, 1956 he was united in marriage to Donna Roske at Zion Lutheran Church in Olivia. Milton had many business endeavors during his life. He was an Allis Chalmers dealer, and he sold grain bins and drying equiptment, and designed, manufactured, and sold his own wood stoves. Milton and Donna also raised ostriches for a short time. After he retired Milton worked in the antique shop with his son Dave.

Milton enjoyed working, having coffee with friends and speaking German as often as possible.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.
