Marti injured in Afghanistan

NEW ULM - A New Ulm man stationed in Afghanistan was injured Monday when an improvised explosive device went off under his armored transport.

Pvt. Franz Marti, son of Ted and Jodi Marti, was injured in the explosion, but he was able to call his parents to break the news to them, said his mother on Wednesday.

Marti, who is serving with the 10th Mountain Division, based in Fort Drum, N.Y., is under observation and being transferred to a military hospital in Germany.

No other details are available.
