ST. GEORGE- Marie Gitter, 85, formerly of St. George, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Franklin.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2 at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George with Father John G. Berger celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday. The St. George Catholic Aid will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Wednesday at the funeral home. Marie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and James Mathiowetz of Morton; sons and daughter-in-law, Benedict Gitter of Fairfax, James and Carla Gitter of New Ulm, Kenneth Gitter of Robbinsdale; 16 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Gitter of Gibbon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Hilary Gitter on February 28, 2003.
Marie Zollner was born on Feb. 9, 1924 in Cairo Township, Renville County to William A. and Anna Marie (Hellmer) Zollner. On May 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Hilary Gitter at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. They farmed in West Newton Township, Nicollet County until 1985 when they moved to New Ulm. In 1996 they move to the Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye.
Marie enjoyed baking buns, embroidery, quilting, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church and the St. George Catholic Aid Society.
