Sleepy Eye drops 2 games

NEW ULM - Creighton Prep jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and held on to beat Sleepy Eye 10-7 in the Jr. Upper Midwest Classic Saturday at Mueller Park.

Scott Salfer took the loss for Sleepy Eye. He pitched four innings and allowed nine runs on nine hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Nolan Helget was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Salfer was 1-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs.

Sleepy Eye closed out the tournament falling to Hutchinson 13-12.

Sleepy Eye scored six in the bottom of the first but Hutchinson scored runs in every inning except the first with a five-run, fifth inning.

Josh Kopacek took the loss in relief of Tyler Braulick.

Adam Sellner was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Helget was 2-for-5, Salfer was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Salfer was 2-for-4. Kyle Krzmarzick was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Sleepy Eye went 0-4 in the tournament and drops its record to 5-8 overall. Sleepy Eye plays Fairmont at 5:30 p.m. in Sleepy Eye.

Tonka 7,

Omaha Gross 0

Neil Kos allowed two hits as the Tonka Mudhens beat Omaha Gross 7-0 at Mueller Park.

Tonka got on the board with four runs in the bottom of the second with three singles, an error and a hit batter. The Mudhens scored two more in the fourth when the first two batters walked and scored on a throwing error. They added a final run in the fifth.

Andrew Weber was 2-for-3 and Andrew Moran and Brett Szalpski each went 2-for-4.

Tonka 6, Buffalo 3

The Tonka Mudhens earned a spot in the championship round of the Jr. Upper Midwest Classic with a 6-3 win over Buffalo at Mueller Park.

Both teams came into the game with one loss, both to New Ulm Jr. Legion.

With the win, Tonka was the runner-up in Pool A.

Tonka jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the third and two in the fourth.

Buffalo came back with three runs in the fifth as J.D. O'Donnell had a two-run double to tie the game at 3.

But Tonka's Lukas Sandi had a two-run single in the bottom of fifth as the Mudhens scored three runs to pull out the win.

Tonka will play Mankato, the winner of Pool B at noon today at Johnson Park.
