SLEEPY EYE - Sylvester Matt Ludewig, 88, of Sleepy Eye died on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in Sleepy Eye.
Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. The clergy will be Father Mark Mallak. Interment will be at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, and 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service on Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Sylvester "Budd" Matt Ludewig was born on April 25, 1921 in Leavenworth Township, the son of Urban and Pearl (Mickelson) Ludewig. He attended country School District #39. He was drafted in the U.S. Army and served in Japan, Hawaiian Islands and the United States during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After he was discharged he was engaged in farming for the rest of his life.
He is survived by a nephew, Jeffrey (Nancy) Ludewig and their children, James and Amber of Sleepy Eye; his siblings, Irene Houghtaling of Carmichael, CA, Delrose (Wilbert) Seifert of New Ulm, Delores Gulden of New Ulm, LaVerna (George) Berg of New Ulm; a brother-in-law, Robert Berg Jr. of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Marie and Marion Berg; brother and sister-in-law, George (Inez) Ludewig; and brothers-in-law, Paul Houghtaling and Robert Gulden.
