New Ulm defeats Willmar, Indians win

New Ulm 6, Willmar 1

WILLMAR - Zach Hoffmann blasted a home run and had two RBIs to lead New Ulm past Willmar 6-1 Monday in nonconference baseball.

Bryan Kehren went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Billy Schwartz contributed an RBI as well.

Garrett Fischer pitched all seven innings to earn the win. He gave up only one run on five hits and struck out eight.

With the victory the Eagles upped their record to 10-4. They host Waseca at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Park.

Sleepy Eye 3, C/CM 1

SLEEPY EYE - Sleepy Eye topped Comfrey/Cedar Mountain 3-1 Monday in Tomahawk Conference baseball play.

Jesse Fischer had a big game for the Indians hitting a double and a triple on the afternoon. Nathan Kral went 2-for-3 and added an RBI.

Kral also pitched for the Indians and picked up the win.

Dale McMullen suffered the loss for the Cougars.

Sleepy Eye moves to 10-7 (8-6) on the year. The Indians play a doubleheader against St. Mary's at home on Thursday.

McLeod West 14,

BLH 1

BROWNTON - McLeod West polished off Buffalo Lake-Hector 14-1 in five innings Monday in Tomahawk Conference baseball action.

Spencer Glaeser had to pitch only four innings to earn the win for the Falcons. He gave up one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

Ryan Hahn lasted only two innings giving up nine runs on eight hits for BLH.

Daniel Rosenau led the attack for the Falcons going 3-for-4 and driving in two runs. Zak Neubarth and Tyler Knick both went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI each. Brody Nelson added a double, two walks, and an RBI for McLeod West.

Andy Fischer batted 2-for-2 on the game for the winless Mustangs.

McLeod West (7-10, 6-8) hosts Minnesota Valley Lutheran in doubleheader action on Thursday.

St. Mary's 6, GFW 0

FAIRFAX - Sleepy Eye St. Mary's blanked Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 6-0 in Tomahawk Conference baseball Monday.

With the score at only 2-0 in the top of the seventh, St. Mary's Brett Ubl laced a two-out triple scoring all three baserunners to put the game out of the Thunderbirds' reach.

Jake Mangen pitched five innings of shutout baseball to pick up the win for the Knights. He allowed three hits, walked four, and struck out three. John Cook struck out the side in the sixth inning with the bases loaded.

Luke Youngblom took the loss for the Thunderbirds despite giving up only one run on one hit in two innings of pitching.

Ubl finished 2-for-3 at the plate on the day for St. Mary's. Pete Schwartz also was 2-for-3 with a double.

Lucas Seehafer went 1-for-3 at the plate for GFW. Kyle Maurer added a double.

With the loss GFW falls to 3-13 (3-11) on the season. The Thunderbirds play a doubleheader against Buffalo Lake-Hector in Fairfax on Thursday.
