NEW ULM - St. Paul's Lutheran School is celebrating Lutheran Schools Week Sunday, March 1, through Friday, March 6.
The week opened with grades K-8 choirs singing at services at St. Paul's and St. John's Lutheran churches Sunday.
On Monday, grandparents of students in grades preK-6 were invited to join their grandchildren for chapel, a school tour, a snack and a sing-along.
Grades 5-8 went ice-skating at the New Ulm Civic Center. Students also dressed as their favorite Bible story character.
On Tuesday - also Crazy Hair/Clash Day - kids in grades preK-4 attended Minnesota State University Theater's production of Abiyoyo. Parents were invited to join them.
Parents were also invited to a pizza lunch with their children.
Celebrations continued Wednesday with a freshmen early field experience at Martin Luther College.
Wednesday was also St. Paul's Spirit Wear/Blue and Gold Day, and students were encouraged to wear the school colors.
Today, school crews - 23 groups that include a balanced mixture of grades - play a Bible-based "Who Am I" guessing game.
Grades 5-8 are having a Yahtzee tournament.
A school open house, band concert and a winter concert by grades 3-4 were evening activities.
Friday is an all-school movie day with popcorn, and kids are expected to show up in pajamas and slippers.
All week long, the students are having a concerted effort to collect funds for the WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) Mission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
An estimating contest - how many tacks were used in the creation of the Herbie the Hedgehog statue in German Park - is going on all week.
Science Fair projects are displayed throughout the school. Visitors are invited to stop in to meet the school hedgehog, Hedgie Ann.
The theme is "In His Steps," based on Proverbs 16:9 - "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps."
