NEW ULM -March is Minnesota Food Share Month. The New Ulm Food Shelf has its biggest collection of food and cash during this month.
In addition, the local food shelf receives a partial matching grant from Minnesota FoodShare and the Alan Feinstein Foundation.
In New Ulm, the Scouts will go house to house this weekend to place door hangers, reminding residents to set out bags of food for the collection on Saturday, March 14.
Food donations may also be brought to local churches or placed in the food shelf boxes at Hy-Vee and CashWise as well as more than a dozen other local businesses.
Items currently in need are Tuna Helper, small pancake packets, tomato soup, chicken noodle soup, crackers, laundry soap, toiletries, jams and jellies.
Cash donations are used to purchase perishable items such as hamburger and eggs. Checks should be made to New Ulm Food Shelf and mailed to P.O. Box 761, New Ulm.
