Marlene Distad, age 73, of Franklin, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.

Funeral Service will a.m., Friday, February 27, at Central Lutheran Church, Camp Township, Renville County, Minnesota. Pastor Karen Cherwein will officiate.Interment in the spring in Hauges Cemetery, Camp Township.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. -8 p.m., Thursday, February 26, at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Marlene Gene (Beltz) Distad was born on July 13, 1935, in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry and Flora (Franke) Beltz. Marlene was baptized as an infant on October 6, 1935, and was later confirmed in the Lutheran faith as a youth on May 1, 1948. She received her education in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, and was a 1953 graduate of the Sleepy Eye High School.

On November 14, 1954, Marlene was united in marriage to Donald Distad at Central Lutheran Church, Camp Township, Renville County, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple resided on the family farm in Camp Township until 1993, when they moved into Franklin, Minnesota. Marlene and Donald were blessed with six children, and shared 38 years of marriage before Donald passed away on October 5, 1993.

Marlene was a member of Central Lutheran Church, Camp Township and a member of the Ladies Aid.

Marlene was a loving homemaker and mother. She was also employed as a Nurse's Aid at the Franklin Healthcare Center and cooked at several restaurants in Fairfax.

Marlene loved to read, embroider, and do handiwork. She loved every opportunity to baby-sit her grandchildren. She always put others first. Marlene had a huge heart and a beautiful smile. She opened her home to many. She was an excellent cook and baker, and she was very proud of the beautiful quilts she made. She could whip up a meal in a moments notice. Her children were fortunate to come home from school to fresh-baked cookies, donuts, rolls and bars. Marlene was kind, compassionate and gentle. She spent her life caring for others. She especially loved the time she spent with her family and friends. Marlene touched many lives.with a smile, a hug, a listening ear or a kind word. We are all better people because of her. Her family loved her so much and she will be missed by all.

Marlene is survived by her children, Debra Distad of Franklin, MN, Jeffrey Distad and his wife, Jane of Franklin, MN, Randy Distad and his wife, Mary Kay of Northfield, MN, Julie Serbus and her husband, Larry of Bird Island, MN, Kari Pearson and her husband, Russ of Madison, MN, and Tammy Distad of Rochester, MN; Grandchildren, Tyson Distad and his wife, Kelly, Corrie Distad and her fiance Billy Hewitt, Jacquie Distad, Jessica Pearson, Laura Pearson, Jon Pearson, Jordan Serbus, Cody Serbus, Josh Distad, and Kelly Distad; Great-Grandchild, Kendra Distad; Sister, Joyce Luepke and her husband, Harold of Courtland, MN; In-Laws, Pat Beltz of Brooklyn Park, MN, Inga Beltz of Fairfax, MN, Alice Madzey of White Bear Lake, MN, June Ahrens and her husband, Keith of Plymouth, MN, Dorothy Christensen and her husband, Vic of Sleepy Eye, MN, and Marlowe Fredrickson of the Sleepy Eye Care Center; Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, friends; and Special Dog, Brie.

Marlene was preceded in death by her Parents, Henry and Flora Beltz; Husband, Donald Distad; Siblings, Curtis Beltz, Harold Beltz, Vernard Beltz, Lorraine Fredrickson, and Twin Sister, Colene Distad; In-Laws, Juleen Distad, William Madzey, and Harold Johnson; and Nephew, Larry Beltz.
