Court finds sufficient evidence to support accusation
Against former Sibley East transportation directorGAYLORD - A judge recently found prosecutors have sufficient evidence to support their accusations against the former transportation director for the Sibley East school district and ruled the man should be required to stand trial on the charges.
Sibley County District Court Judge Thomas G. McCarthy made the ruling Monday during an omnibus hearing in the criminal case involving Kevin David Jones, 47, of Gaylord, who is accused of five counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct.
McCarthy also scheduled a settlement conference for March 12. If the case is not resolved at that hearing, a jury will hear the case on March 24, according to a press release issued Friday by the Sibley County Attorney's Office.
Jones was accused in October of having sexual intercourse with an underage minor while he was Sibley East's transportation director as well as the juvenile's occaisional bus driver for sporting events and the juvenile's superior during summer employment at the school.
Sibley East school district, which serves the cities of Arlington, Gaylord and Green Isle, placed Jones on paid suspension on Oct. 1 while the district made an administrative investigation of its own. It dismissed Jones late in 2008.
