Youth book collection underway

NEW ULM - Have you got books lying around or stored away that some child from birth to age seven years old would enjoy?

The Youth Council of the New Ulm Area will get them to those children. The Youth Council, working in conjunction with the Brown County Early Childhood Initiative, is collecting books that will be made available to children ages 0-7 for free.

These will be in Red Bookcases placed in various locations through out the community starting in January. They are doing this because a child who is read to and has books in their homes has a much better chance to succeed when they start school.

All you need to do is drop off your gently used or new books at one of these sites: Cash Wise, Hy-Vee, Alliance Bank, Bank Midwest, Citizens Bank, Wells Fargo, United Prairie, Southpoint, or Curves. The Youth Council of New Ulm has members from all three high schools in New Ulm and is part of Healthy Community/Healthy Youth of the New Ulm Area and receives support for this project from the New Ulm Area Foundation.

For more information or if you have a location for a Red Bookcase please contact Sheldon Rieke at 354-8632.
