MORTON - The Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Coalition meets at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17 in the Grand Eagle III Ballroom at Jackpot Junction Casino Hotel.
The coalition formed in August at a meeting in the Winthrop Veterans Club. Goals include upgrading the 94-mile Minnesota Prairie Line (MPL) to allow 25 mph unit trains.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Twin Cities & Western Railroad based in Glencoe, the line stretches from Hanley Falls to Norwood.
It's line also serves Hamburg, Green Isle, Arlington, Gaylord, Winthrop, Gibbon, Fairfax, Franklin, Morton, Redwood Falls, Delhi, Belview, Echo, Wood Lake and the surrounding area.
Commodities hauled on the line include corn, fertilizer, biodiesel, ethanol, distillers dried grains (DDGs), soybeans, and vegetables.
