NEW ULM - Have you heard about that trailer for that new movie that's coming out soon?

If you haven't heard about it yet, here's the juice - a promotional website called newintownmovie.com shows a promotional trailer for a film called 'New In Town' that takes place in New Ulm.

'New In Town' is a romantic comedy that stars Renee Zellweger as a career woman from Miami who is transferred to New Ulm to take charge of a butter plant. She zealously accepts the transfer thinking it will translate into a big promotion. Harry Connick Jr. stars as the local man with whom Zellweger's character falls in love.

The film's website says 'New In Town' is slated for release nationwide on Jan. 30.

Shannon McKeeth knows about the movie already, because its director, Jonas Elmer, and one of its supporting cast members, Nancy Drake, stayed at her bed and breakfast while they were doing research for the film in New Ulm last year.

The script for 'New In Town' mentioned certain things, such as the American Legion, a factory and a type of town square.

McKeeth served as Elmer's tour guide when he came to research this city last October. She said they visited all of New Ulm's landmarks together. Elmer, who is from Copenhagen, also rode a bicycle around New Ulm by himself, she said.

"He was a very, very kind man," said McKeeth of Elmer.

Supporting actress Nancy Drake came to New Ulm last December to study the local dialect. McKeeth also played host to Drake, who plays 'Flo' in 'New In Town'. Together, the two women went to the B&L Bar and Larkspur Market so Drake could get a feel for how New Ulmites talk.

"We sound a lot like 'Fargo' in the trailer, but who cares? It's a plug for New Ulm. We know who we are! Hopefully, it'll be as successful for New Ulm as 'Grumpy Old Men' was for Wabasha," said McKeeth.

McKeeth said she started hearing rumors around New Ulm after the 'New In Town' trailer website debuted on the Internet about two weeks ago. She said the film is "really the buzz around town" and that the things she's heard people say indicate that they're "really excited" about 'New In Town.'
