Workers from Heymann Construction and Heritage Memorials and Stone Creations placed a 3,200 pound statue of Mary in the bell tower of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm Friday. The statue was carved out of Indiana limestone in the 1920's for the old St. Mary's School that was demolished in 2004. Leroy Zander of Heritage Memorials and Stone Creations added another piece of matching limestone to the back of the statue and carved it to match. The project marks the completion of phase one of St. Mary's remodeling projects. The two other phases will include work on the interior of the sanctuary and work on the parking lot and social hall.
