Area resident is lottery winner

NEW ULM - Jody Hillesheim of New Ulm has won $10,000 playing the Lottery's Powerball game.

Hillesheim claimed the prize on Oct. 24. The winning ticket was purchased at Hy-Vee Gas, 2027 S. Broadway in New Ulm.

Meadowland co-op burns off gas near Wabasso

REDWOOD FALLS - The Redwood County Sheriff's Office said a fire near Wabasso is happening because a local co-op is burning gas out of one of its storage tanks.

The Meadowland Co-op is is burning a mixture of liquid propane gas and ammonia out of a pipe that is in a soybean field 2 1/2 miles southeast of Wabasso.

The flames from the burn are high. The fire will burn until sometime this weekend.

Nicollet Co. re-opens Fort Road (CSAH 5)

ST. PETER - On Friday, the Nicollet County Public Works Dept. re-opened CSAH 5 (Fort Road) from State Highway 111 to CSAH 40, west of St. Peter.

Motorists were reminded to be aware of re-surfacing work still being done off the highway including nearby ditches.

Southern Minnesota Construction of Mankato was the prime contractor for the four-month reconstruction project that cost about $5 million.
