New Ulm - Howard Pete Zobel, 69, of New Ulm died Wednesday, Oct, 1, 2008, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John Richter Celebrating the Mass.
Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3 - 8 p.m.Monday and will continue from 7:30 until 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a rosary by the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council at 6 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. both Monday at the funeral home.
Pete was born on November 30, 1938 in New Ulm to Howard and Dolores (Konz) Zobel. He attended school in New Ulm. Following school Pete was united in marriage to Rosemary Griebel on September 9, 1961 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. He was a carpenter for 25 years. After his carpentry career Pete was employed as head of maintenance at Turner Hall in New Ulm. After that he worked at Cook Sanitation for 14 years and also ran the recycling center for Waste Management. He later worked at AMPI and Consolidated Containers before retiring due to illness. Pete was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council, the most senior member of the Sons of American Legion where he was a member for forty years, and he wasa founding member of the VFW Post 950 Men's Auxiliary in Mankato. Pete did volunteer work for 43 years as an election judge in Brown County. He enjoyed home repair, gardening, and was the Green Bay Packers biggest fan.
Pete is survived by his wife Rosemary of 47 years; daughters, LaRae Lueck and fiance David Hill of Spring Lake, Lisa Royston of New Ulm, Linda Wengert and her husband, Richard, of Good Thunder; sons, Lyle Zobel and special friend, Priscilla Kraus, of New Ulm, Linus Zobel of New Ulm; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Zobel of Winona; grandchildren, Sky Royston and wife Amber of Rochester, Amanda Lueck of St. James, Jonathan Wengert of Albert Lea, Justin Wengert of Good Thunder, Jennifer Royston of Fairmont, Kirstie Egnia of Hutchinson, and Scott and Erik Zobel of New Ulm; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Ronda Hatfield and her husband, Gerald, of Ceylon, Rhona Wallert of Fairmont; a brother, James Zobel, of Springfield; a sister-in-law, Helen Zobel of Faribault; an uncle, Eugene "Casey" Konz and his wife, Emma, of New Ulm; and by many nieces and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, MaryAnn; a brother, Roger; a grandson; and a great-grand daughter.
