"Kids Against Hunger" event

SPRINGFIELD - For the fourth year in a row, the churches and community of Springfield will come together to help reduce world hunger with an event called "Kids Against Hunger" from 3-7 pm. on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the Springfield Community Center.

Kids Against Hunger, a program of feeding children internationally, is an opportunity to serve others by packaging high-protein, low-cost meals which are then sent to those who need them. Many of those who receive these meals eat one meal a day. The mission of Kids Against Hungers is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed God's starving children throughout the world.

The Springfield Ministerial has led the team of packers and support from the beginning. This area raised over $9,000 last year with over 312 team members packing 78,000 meals. Local churches, organizations, and businesses are collecting monies for this event. These donations pay for the meals that are packaged.

Sign up sheets are at your local church to schedule a shift to work. There are two shifts in Springfield with the first shift from 3-5 p.m. and the second from 5-7 p.m.

For more information call Monica J. Simmons, St. Raphael's Church 507-723-4138 or Fr. Dennis Labat 507-723-4141.
