NEW ULM - Sometimes that 27th out is the hardest out of the game. That was the case for the New Ulm Brewers Thursday.

Trailing 9-2 going into the bottom of the ninth inning, Lamberton made things interesting. The Long Sox scored four runs to cut the lead to 9-6 but that was as close as they could get. New Ulm won the Tomahawk East American Division championship and now will host Searles at 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Park.

The Brewers built the big lead early. New Ulm scored two runs in the first when Ryan Ellwein led off the game with a single. He scored on Brady Ranweiler's double and Ranweiler scored when Corey Ranweiler singled to left.

Brady Ranweiler hit a two-run homer that nearly hit the scoreboard in left field in the third and New Ulm added another run in fourth to go up 5-0.

The Brewers made it 7-0 in the sixth when Ellwein walked and scored when Jon Suess reached on an error. Suess scored on yet another Brady Ranweiler hit as finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs and was a triple shy of the cycle.

Lamberton finally got on the board in the sixth. Matt Samyn reached on a bunt single and Tyler Reiner reached on an error. Samyn scored on a Travis Kotke single and Issac Jenniges drove in Reiner with a single to left to make it 7-2.

New Ulm looked to put the game out of reach in the seventh when the Brewers scored two mores runs to make it 9-2. They could have had more but left bases loaded.

That left the door open for Lamberton's final rally.

Issac Jenniges and Donald Strand led off the ninth inning with singles and Derrick Jenniges walked to load the bases. Colby Pack hit a bases-clearing double to center to cut the lead to 9-5. Pack scored on a Kotke double but that was all the Long Sox could get as they fell 9-6.

Lamberton plays at Hanska at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Casey Pack took the loss for Lamberton. He pitched one inning and allowed two runs on three hits. The Long Sox used six pitchers in the game.

Colby Pack was 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Strand was 2-for-5, Derrick Jenniges was 2-for-4 and Issac Jenniges was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Kotke was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Andy Stolt earned the win for New Ulm. He went six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Chris Peters pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Corey Ranweiler struck out two in the ninth.

Ellwein was 2-for-3 with three runs. Corey Ranweiler, Travis Thorson and Peters each had two hits. Corey Schaefer and Suess each had an RBI.
