Essig holds off Sleepy Eye
SLEEPY EYE - Sleepy Eye rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Essig defeated Sleepy Eye 9-7 in 10 innings in Tomahawk East Amateur baseball action Tuesday.
Kyle Helget got the win in relief, pitching three innings and allowing four runs on four hits.
Brian Hertling took the loss for Sleepy Eye, pitching two innings and allowing two runs.
For Essig, Terry Helget was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs. Weier was 2-for-3 and Ty Sellner was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Dusty Fleck was 1-for-5 with a double, a run, and an RBI.
For Sleepy Eye, Joey Walter was 3-for-4 with a double and Andrew Woitas was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Alan Woitas was 2-for-5 and Jake Bohnen was 1-for-5, with a triple and a run.
Both Essig and Sleepy Eye finish the regular season at 12-8. The Tomahawk East playoffs begin Friday, and Essig hosts Gibbon at 6 p.m. and Sleepy Eye hosts Redwood Falls at 8 p.m.
