Mabel Anderson

HANSKA Mabel Anderson, 91, of Hanska, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 15 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with Rev. Mary Suomala Folkerds officiating. Burial will follow in Lake Hanska Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 8:00 p.m. Monday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mabel Sylvia Shelley, the daughter of Ed and Ida (Sletta) Shelley, was born March 31, 1917 in Lake Hanska Township. She graduated from Madelia High School and Mankato Teachers College. Mabel was united in marriage to Arnold Anderson on March 27, 1945 at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church. She taught in area rural schools for eight years, Hanska Public School for eight years, and was a kindergarten and substitute teacher for eight years. After her husband's death in 1996, she continued to make her home in Hanska and became a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in January 2007. Mabel was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, WLCA, the Sons of Norway, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers of Brown County. She was an active volunteer for these and many other organizations. Mabel was well known in the community for her love of flowers, writing letters, and the many batches of krumkake she made for family and friends. We will miss her positive attitude and caring ways.

Survivors include her daughters, Louise Ellingson and her husband Dennis of Courtland, Janet Frederickson and her husband Ric of New Ulm; grandchildren Eric and Ryan Ellingson, Shawn Wilfahrt and her husband Steve, Andrew Schmiesing and his wife Katie all of New Ulm; step grandchildren Ross and Katy Frederickson both of New Ulm; three great grandchildren Bella and Saige Wilfahrt and Lauren Schmiesing all of New Ulm; sisters Evelyn Current and her husband Richard of Minneapolis; brother-in-law Bill Heller of Payson, AZ; nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Audrey Lenz and Alice Heller; and brother-in-law Roman Lenz.
