Lafayette - Viola Flygare, age 90 of Lafayette, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be2:00 p.m.Monday, July 14, 2008, atBernadotteLutheranChurch,BernadotteTownship,Nicollet County, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.Sunday, July 13, 2008, and7:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m.Monday, July 14, 2008, at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Viola (Alm) Flygare was born onMarch 10, 1918, inAlfsborgTownship,Sibley County,Minnesota. She was the daughter of Charles and Anna (Carlson) Alm. In her earlier years, Viola assisted area families with child care after a home birth of a child.
During World War II, Viola was employed at a defense factory inMinneapolis; then as a telephone operator inWinthrop; as a secretary for Midland Coop in Winthrop; and later farming with her husband.
Viola was united in marriage to John Flygare onJune 28, 1963, atFirstLutheranChurchinWinthrop. After their marriage they farmed in BernadotteTownship,Nicollet County. After retiring in 1983, Viola and John continued to reside on the farm. The couple shared 42 years of marriage before John passed away onAugust 16, 2005.
Viola was a member ofBernadotteLutheranChurch, where she had been active with WELCA. She also held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star.
Viola enjoyed playing cards, especially 500; gardening and caring for her farm animals. She loved to spend time with her family.
Viola is survived by her: sisters, Julia Anderson ofBuffalo Lake,MN, and Lillian Flygare ofLafayette,MN; nephews and nieces,Duane and Carol Flygare ofWinthrop,MN, Gary and Melba Graupman ofNicollet,MN, Marcus and Kristine Flygare ofNorth Mankato,MN, Lynn and Pauline Flygare ofCourtland,MN, Dennis and Deanna Sjogren ofLafayette,MN, Carol Forcier ofBuffalo Lake,MN, and Joyce Anderson ofBuffalo Lake,MN;many great-nieces, great-nephews and other friends.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Alm; husband, John Flygare; sister, Myrtle Sjogren; and brothers-in-law, Harry Anderson, Ronald Flygare, and Elmer Sjogren.
