Frazee - Paul Martin Furey, age 43, of Frazee, MN, and formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at his parents' home in Frazee surrounded by his family. He had been treated for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma since February 2007.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee. The Rev. Xavier Ilongo will officiate. Burial following at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 9 pm Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee and 1 hour before services at church. Prayer services will be 7 pm Monday at the church, followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary. Arrangements by the Furey Family. (Furey Funeral Home, Frazee)
Paul was born December 16, 1964 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Bernard and Katherine (Tuttle) Furey. He grew up in Frazee and graduated from the Frazee-Vergas High School in 1984. He graduated from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH in 1988 with a B.A. in political science and minors in theology and human life issues. In 1992 he received his master's degree from the International Academy of Philosophy in the Principality of Liechtenstein, where he had lived for 3 years. He was active here in the Lion of Judah Household, a Catholic Brotherhood. He taught at St. Thomas More High School in Rapid City, SD and had worked as a director of religious education at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Paul taught for a year at Immaculata College in West Chester, PA. He moved back to Frazee in 2005 to work in sales with his brother, Patrick. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frazee where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed outdoor activities, travel and reading. He loved spending time with his family including his nephews and nieces. He had friends from around the world. Paul loved his faith.
He is survived by his parents, Barney and Kay, Frazee; brothers and sisters, Kathy Furey, St. Paul; Ann Doberstein, (Brent Gurtek), Duluth; Tom Furey (Mary), Minneapolis; Joe (Susan), Clearwater; Bernadette Furey, Frazee; Jim (Heather), Apple Valley; Pat (Sara), Frazee; Nick, Frazee; 21 nieces and nephews, a grand niece, aunts and uncles, foster sister and brother, Rosemary (Martin) Gordon, Bayfield, WI; Thanh Nguyen, Worcestor, MA; and his beloved golden retriever, Jake.
Memorials are preferred to the Gift of Life Transplant House in Rochester, MN.
