GAYLORD - Kenneth Fruhwirth, age 61 of Gaylord, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at Oak Terrace Health Care Center of Gaylord.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Officiated by the Reverend Paul Tessmer. Interment will beat St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Full Military Honors by the Winthrop Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Kenneth Paul Fruhwirth was born on December 23, 1946, in New Ulm. He was the oldest of seven children of Michael and Lillian (Havemeier) Fruhwirth. He attended grade school in Winthrop until the family moved to Gaylord in 1957. Kenneth was a 1965 graduate of the Gaylord Public School.

Kenneth entered active military service in the United States Army on January 20, 1966, and served during the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Kenneth received an Honorable Discharge from active duty on January 19, 1968. He then served in the Army Reserves and received an Honorable Discharge on January 19, 1972.

Through the years, Kenneth worked at Green Isle Manufacturing, Nicollet Creamery, Michael Foods and for the last six years at Le Sueur Incorporated.

Kenneth was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop, where he served as usher and on the Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Winthrop VFW Post #4078.

Kenneth enjoyed getting together with his family for holidays and other outings. He liked 50s, 60s, and country western music, Saturday night races in Arlington, and was a sports fan of the Minnesota Twins.

When he needed assistance with his daily care, Kenneth became a resident of Oak Terrace Health Care Center of Gaylord on May 19, 2008, and passed away there on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at the age of 61 years. Blessed be his memory.

Kenneth is survived by his parents, Michael and Lillian Fruhwirth of New Ulm; siblings, Diane LeBrun and her husband, James of Gaylord, MN, Marlys Schimmelpfennig and her significant other, Kermit Luehrs of Glencoe, Linda Carlson and her husband, Craig of Duluth, Jeannie Fruhwirth of Henderson, CO and significant other, Lowell Busse of New Auburn, MN,Mary Fruhwirth of Pottstown, PA, and Michael Fruhwirth, Jr. and his significant other, Lisa Jacobs of Watertown, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and an uncle.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his grandparents.
