Louis 'Louie' F. Hansel
SLEEPY EYE -Louis "Louie" F. Hansel, 93, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Glencoe, Minn., died on Monday, June 30, 2008, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, Minn.
Visitation will be on from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel in Sleepy Eye.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel with the Father Mark Mallak officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Glencoe Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, Minn.

Louis Hansel was born March 10, 1915 in Cologne, Minn. He was baptized and confirmed in Cologne. Following school, Louie was employed as a blacksmith in Cologne. On July 12, 1938, Louie was united in marriage to Helen Schmitz at Bernard's in Cologne. They moved to Glenwood where they operated a grocery store until World War II. Louie was a machinist in a war munitions facility in Willmar until the end of the war. Following that, he was a mechanic for many years until his retirement. In retirement, Louie and Helen moved to Glencoe. Following his wife's death in 2001, Louie moved to New Ulm. He had been a resident at Divine Providence since 2007.
Louie enjoyed fishing, woodworking and camping. He also enjoyed bird watching and tinkering with various inventions.
Louie is survived by his children, Alan (Joyce) Hansel of Claremont, Tom (Sandie) Hansel of Moraga, Calif., Duane (Karla) Hansel of New Ulm and Shirley Hansel of Waseca; seven grandchildren, Peter (Patt) Hansel, LeAnne (Brad) Krause, Laurel Hansel-Coe, Chris (Neila) Hansel, Jenny (Geoff) Call, Scott Hansel and Katie Hansel; and seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Veronica "Bonnie" Phillips of St. Paul.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; sister, Anna Thuening; brother, Joseph; and granddaughter, Kerry Hansel
