Menard plat on NU Council agenda tonight

NEW ULM — A public hearing on the final plat of the Menard Subdivision on west U.S. Highway 14 tops the City Council’s agenda tonight.
The council also will be asked to award the bid for the New Ulm Public Library roof top replacement Phase II project for replacing the heating, venting and air conditioning units to Ahrens Heating for $36,185.
Two ordinances are on the agenda for second reading and subsequent adoption.
One allows using Riverside Park and Minnecon Park for the sole purpose of fishing 24 hours a day. The other adds a section to the City Code that defines the word “incidental” as it pertains to the sale of intoxicating liquor under the provisions of a caterer’s permit issued by the state.
Two conditional use permit issues will be up for consideration by the council. They include a permit for River Bend Education District to provide educational programs at 1300 S. Minnesota St. (old Quality Fitness building), and a permit for Jeffrey Meier to allow the operation of a property appraisal business as a home occupation at 1724 N. Jefferson St.
Variance applications by Lisa Langer and Brad Altmann to allow building a dwelling within 5 feet of the rear property line at 1300 Oak Street, and by Dean Burdof to allow construction of a building to within 0 feet of the front property line and 0 feet of the rear property line are on the agenda. Burdof’s application also includes obtaining approval to build a loading dock to the front property line at 520 S. Valley St.
New business includes approval of a loan from the Economic Development Authority to the TIF H5 Milford Heights Phase 1 Fund, construction of an enclosed stairway on public right-of-way at MBW Co., 1200 S. Broadway, and amending the Heritage Preservation Commission historic signage cost-sharing program to include the Old Corner Store at 526 S. Minnesota St.
Prior to the 7 o’clock regular meeting, the City Council and the New Ulm Public Utilities Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers with auditors to review audited financial statements for 2007.
