Elmer O. “Mickey” Michaelis
NEW AUBURN — Elmer O. “Mickey” Michaelis, 83, of New Auburn, Minn., Monday, May 12, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, with burial in High Island Cemetery, New Auburn. Military Honors by the New Auburn VFW Post 7266.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m., Monday, May 19, and 7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m., Tuesday, May 20, at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Elmer Oscar “Mickey” Michaelis was born on July 11, 1924, in New Auburn Township, Sibley County, Minn., to Henry and Margaretha (Kassuhn) Michaelis.
He served in the U.S. Navy from May 5, 1943, to December 17, 1946. He achieved the rank of Seaman Third Class and worked in the Supply Department. Mickey served in the Pacific Theater, serving in Guam, Philippines, and Okinawa.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1950, to Nov. 30, 1966. He served in the supply unit in Greenland, Alaska, and Thailand. He received the National Defense Medal with Bronze Star.
