Eagles power past St. Peter in SCC game

ST. PETER — Three different players hit home runs to help propel New Ulm to a 10-5 win over South Central opponent St. Peter.
Kyle Fischer received the win for New Ulm, going 5 2/3 innings. He left the mound with eight strikeouts and allowed six hits and four earned runs.
Kyle Fischer, Luke Altmann and Garrett Fischer each hit a home run for the Eagles. Kyle Fischer was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a triple to go with his home run.
Altmann was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Garrett Fischer was 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Wade French went 2-for-4 with a double.
New Ulm (7-1, 6-0) plays at 4 p.m. today at Mueller Park against Jackson County Central.

COMFREY — Tony Schumacher hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Cedar Mountain/Comfrey to a 5-4 win over Tomahawk Conference foe Buffalo Lake-Hector.
Collin Phillips pitched all seven innings to pick up the win for CM/C. He had four strikeouts and allowed eight hits.
Eric Schultz took the loss for BLH, striking out six in seven innings.
BLH got its revenge in the second game, winning 8-6. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth due to lightning.
Bryce Rippentrop got the win for BLH, striking out 10 in the game.
CMC used four different pitchers in the second game. Gale McMullen got stuck with the loss.
Phillips led CMC, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a stolen base in the two games.
Rippentrop was 3-for-7 with an RBI for the Mustangs. Joe Kubesh was 3-for-7 with two RBIs.
BL/H (2-8) plays Wabasso at 5 p.m. Monday. CM/C (2-7) plays today against Wabasso at Milroy.

MILROY — New Ulm Cathedral and Wabasso each picked up 10-run Tomahawk Conference baseball victories in five innings.
In the first game, the Rabbits offense was led by senior Christopher Eichten’s three singles, Andy Rohlik’s single and double, and Derek Riley’s double.
Zach Fischer contributed a double for Cathedral. Johnny Pistulka picked up the win for Wabasso in 5 innings of work. He allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out five.
Ty Sellner was tacked with the loss, giving up nine hits and striking out three in 2 2/3 innings.
Cathedral responded in the second game, winning 14-4. Derek Wilfahrt led the Greyhound offense with a double and triple. Kyle Fischer, Craig Fischer, and Brock Sieve all added two singles for Cathedral.
Jacob Bierl had a triple and three RBIs for the Rabbits. Holden Salfer had a double as well.
Craig Fischer took the win in 4 innings of work. He allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out four batters. Eichten was charged with the loss. He allowed 14 hits and walked four in 3 2/3 innings.
Cathedral moves to 8-2 (7-1) and plays in Minnesota Lake against Maple River Saturday. Wabasso improves to 6-4 (4-4) and plays in Milroy against Cedar Mountain/Comfrey today.

SPRINGFIELD — Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop swept Springfield in a doubleheader in Tomahawk conference baseball action Thursday.
In Game 1, GFW’s Corey Gutknect pitched a complete game to get the win. He allowed four hits and allowed two runs and he struck out two and walked three.
Springfield’s Christian Loomis pitched a complete game and took the loss. He allowed seven hits and 12 runs, struck out three and walked three.
GFW’s Alex Busch went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s. Max Pagel went 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs.
Springfield’s Trevor Krebs went 3-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.
In Game 2, GFW’s Reed Sallstrom pitched a complete game to get the win. He allowed two hits, two runs and struck out 11.
Springfield’s Andy Plotz got the loss. Plotz allowed six hits and three runs. He struck out six and walked three.
Sallstrom went 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI. Lucas Youngbloom went 2-for-3 with a triple.
Springfield’s Alex Frank went 2-for-3 with a double.
Springfield (2-7) will host Sleepy Eye Monday. GFW will host McLeod West Monday in a doubleheader in Fairfax.
