Neubauer returned to New Ulm a month ago and is buying a chiropractic clinic from Dr. James Guse, who will retire at the beginning of next month.
Neubauer, who was born and raised in New Ulm, is a graduate of Cathedral High School, St. Cloud State University and Northwestern College of Chiropractors.
After graduation, he practiced chiropractics in the area of Buffalo and Delano before he decided to come home.
Chiropractors have different philosophies and techniques, Neubauer said. Neubauer said he wants to pursue chiropractic pediatrics, which deals with prenatal care for women and care of infants
He prefers manual adjustments over chiropractic tools, although he uses tools when necessary.
“A chiropractor looks at a person’s nervous system because it controls the body but also the bone structure that surrounds it and they manipulate the spine to reduce pressure on a person’s nervous system to help it function correctly,” Neubauer said.
Neubauer will offer chiropractic services, examinations, x-rays, electric stimulation, nutritional supplements, bracing, pillows and sports physicals when he takes over the practice on April 1.
The name of Guse Chiropractic will change to Neubauer Family Chiropractic after that date.
Neubauer said he will be expanding the clinic’s hours including lunch hours and on Saturdays for patient convenience. He's also studying to be a board-certified pediatric chiropractor.
He said that in the future, he would like to add orthotics and wants to give talks about health-related topics, like back safety and how not to hurt yourself playing golf and on fibromyalgia.
He recalls that he gave a talk about a health-related topic in Delano every other week inside his office and gave one outside his office once a month in assisted living centers, golf courses and an alternative learning center. He said his initial offer to talk translated into requests he received from other who wanted the same things, thanks to word-of-mouth.
Neubauer will be giving a back safety talk for the City of New Ulm.
Neubauer called Guse ‘a great mentor, a great person’ and thanked him for everything he’s done.
He contacted Guse before returning to New Ulm and came back specifically to buy the practice.
The two chiropractors had personal connections, even before Neubauer was done with school. Neubauer said he knew Guse’s son from working at the theater and knew the family from church before he became a chiropractor.
Guse will retire on April 1. The clinic will hold an open house on that day to recognize Guse and welcome Neubauer.
Guse has practiced chiropractics for 33 years. He started his own practice in 1984.
Guse said his plans are “undetermined and undecided” aside from fishing. He said he’s going to stay in New Ulm
“I’ve always said that if I retired from practice, I wanted to find someone who would take good care of my patients,” Guse said.
