LOS ANGELES, Calif. — An actress with New Ulm roots will appear this weekend on the Sci Fi channel.

Natalie Sperl, the daughter of Dennis and Arlene Sperl of New Ulm, plays the lead female role in “Rock Monster” a thriller that premiers at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 22.

Starring Chad Collins and Jon Polito the movie was filmed in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The production centers on the old King Arthur legend in which a college student pulled a sword from a stone. The stone comes to life as a monster, kills people and can’t be stopped until the student stabs the sword back into it.

In case you miss the movie’s premier, it will be repeated four hours later.

Earlier in the year, Sperl had lead roles or appeared in several other films.

“Rounds,” is a drama about three friends who struggle with relationships, money and the pursuit of happiness.

“Unhitched” is a comedy TV series about a 35-year-old guy who got married right out of college, found himself newly divorced and ill-prepared to enter the dating scene.

Now 29, Sperl has appeared in more than 20 feature films and television shows.

Those movies include “Alibi,” “Two and a Half Men,” “How I Met Your Mother,” and “Around the World in 80 Days.”

Sperl modeled in Europe and the United States, doing runway and appearing on several magazine covers including Esquire (Turkey) in June 2007.

She was chosen as the Coors Light girl and starred with Kid Rock in national Superbowl commercials in 2004.

Born in New Ulm, where she began her career with high school plays, Sperl was encouraged by her parents to pursue her passion for the arts.

She studied at the Second City Improv Group and did stand up at the Comedy Store and The Improv in Los Angeles.

In her spare time, Sperl enjoys cats and networking.
