GENEVA (AP) — The adviser to Syrian President Bashar Assad says it is "very difficult to imagine" how presidential elections could be conducted within the violence raging in Syria.

In an interview with The Associated Press in Geneva, Bouthaina Shaaban says peace and quiet are a requirement for an election in any country.

Still, she reiterated that if there is an election, there is no reason Assad could not run.

Shaaban said Wednesday that there is "nothing in the world" called a transitional governing body as the opposition is demanding.
