Zellers raises $400K in raise for Minn. governor

January 23, 2014
Associated Press

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Republican candidate for governor Kurt Zellers says he's raised just over $400,000 so far in his bid to challenge Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton in November.

Zellers, a Republican state representative and former speaker of the House, released his fundraising totals Thursday. They cover the second half of 2013, starting from when he joined the race in June.

Zellers' haul puts him second in the money race among Republicans running for governor who have reported fundraising so far. Businessman Scott Honour has reported raising $500,000, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson collected $240,000 from donors, and state Sen. Dave Thompson took in $120,000.

Two other candidates, former state Rep. Marty Seifert and teacher Rob Farnsworth, have not yet released fundraising figures. Seifert joined the race later than the other candidates.
