Standoff ends in Austin, suspect still at large

January 15, 2014
Associated Press

AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) — Police have searched a home in Austin after a nine-hour standoff, but the carjacking suspect authorities were searching for remains at large.

Officers arrested two people who left the home Tuesday. But police say a 22-year-old man is still at large.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger (KREE'-gur) says authorities believe the man was involved in a carjacking in Mankato Tuesday morning.

Seven people exited the home in northwest Austin Tuesday. Two men and two women exited in the morning.

A child wearing pajamas left the house around 2:25 p.m., followed moments later by a young woman and a man. The Austin Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/1alQni0) reports police handcuffed, searched and arrested those two adults.

Police had used a loudspeaker to communicate with people inside, and at least twice used flash-bang grenades.
