Ventura won't be sanctioned in court case

October 17, 2013
Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A federal magistrate judge says he won't sanction former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura for failing to turn over his military service records.

Ventura is suing the widow of former Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who claimed in a book that he punched a man in a bar who he later identified as Ventura. The former governor says the incident never happened and sued for defamation. Kyle died in an unrelated incident in February, but the lawsuit continues against Taya Kyle as executor of his estate.

The Star Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/17w1gMy ) the sanctions request was one of several motions U.S. Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan dismissed during a pretrial hearing Wednesday.

Ventura's lawyers say he lost most of his military service papers. The only document he has produced has been his discharge record.
