Have most of you lived under a rock? We've heard the white side of the story since 1862.

The Milford State Monument west of New Ulm on County RD 29 was rededicated this summer. The guest speaker gave a long and graphic description of the horrors inflicted on his ancestors. The monument lists the names of forty some people killed by the Indians. The tpt documentary included this ceremony in their broadcast.

I should have proofread before posting. I meant "in cold blood".

Bachman's interviews were used, but not in context. If you are going to do a documentary, you must tell both sides of the story. This film did not. Many people of this generation knew nothing about the massacre, uprising, conflict, war, whatever is politically correct these days. If it was war, the P.C. termed used in 2012, then both sides are armed and the unarmed settler noncombatants were not armed, but shot or tomahawked in good blood. That is not war, it is a massacre. These facts need to be stated. The Dakota like to use the term genocide. Killing 100 babies and children, the largest mass killing of young in U.S. history, is genocide. Killing 40 women is genocide.

Did you stop to consider that Bachman may be biased and miffed because his interviews were apparently not used in the documentary? We all know the pioneer side of the story so well there was no need to repeat it.

Can we call it a fair trial when a clerk in the court gets to make a mark in the record indicating whether a man lives or dies merely using a response to a specific question as the criteria for life or death?

We all, if given the chance, would have probably edited the documentary in a different way. They had a lot of material. They have people talking which can be a good thing.

Read the letter from Walt Bachman to TPT today in the journal. The sad part about this is that TPT reruns their documentaries many times so this will be shown many times and all the material in this will be shown as one -sided again and again.

Thank you, Tolerance. I watched the same show and thought it was a well done piece.

I thought the documentary was very well done. There was a lot of material to cover in two hours. The pioneer side of the story has been very well documented over the years. TPT did state the facts accurately and decided to give the native Americans a little more voice to discuss their feelings. Many of them were punished unjustly, made to leave their homes and way of life. Not all of the native Americans living in this area participated in the murders, but were not given sufficient opportunity to defend themselves. This documentary was done to help both sides understand each other and possibly forgive.

I can't agree more. I wonder how much the Casinos donate to Tpt during the year..... Tpt don't care about facts, they have lost all of their integrity they ever had! They sure have lost my support!
