I not so sure fireworks in September is such a good idea. People will get confused and think it's the 4th of July and that they have four more months before they have to put away the patio furniture. Then they'll end up out in the snow, freezing their tuchas off in December.

No, not a good idea.

It would be much better to have the 4th of July fireworks in June and then everyone would have an extra month of summer.

Yes.

I love it. "If you don't agree with me you can just leave town". In the next breath "Wow the population of New Ulm continues to drop". Hmmm, could there be a correlation there ?

Funny how this town focuses more on that boring Hermann Monument then it does on it's dwindling population,Get it over it,Its nothing special,I'm sure Detox in town gets more visitors a year.

thanks to Hermann Monument Committee for getting this ball rolling! Les, you can now jump on their bandwagon for the personal glory, but credit goes to them.

At a little more than $3 per household in this city, I think that it is money well spent. I'm glad that they are not doing it on the 4th. Everybody else does it on the 4th. We usually aren't even in town, and a lot of people that I know are at the lake that week. Plus, it gives our neighboring communities a chance to continue their thing while getting decent attendance.

I think that the organizers did a good job and this will give them something to build off of. New Ulm needs something different than Bavarian Blast. That thing really isn't going anywhere.

I think the fireworks in September is good. It is well worth the $15,000.Some of the extra money could be used to buy a bus ticket for you people who want out of town.

newulmite: it's perfectly fine to "slam" certain things in this city that are true like: nepotism, good ol' boys, German conservatism, beer drinking as a hobby, etc. Freedom of speech. The answer isn't simply to move out, it's change once in awhile!

I don't have a dog or young kids, but I would have much rather seen this extra money assist in the efforts of getting the dog park off the ground or down payment on a water park.

Jessica B, I think your 265 might actually be a tad bit high.

Current NU Population, 13,265

Those that really care about the Battery and Concord Singers...265

With all due respect to the history and heritage of New Ulm, let's turn the page please.

So they miscalculated their budget on healthcare costs and rather than rework the budget they found something else to spend the money on ? This accounting "windfall" gets spent on fireworks. Well, at least they aren't giving themselves raises with this newly discovered money. I guess you could call that progress.
