Nusenior: Please explain how some farmers going under will cause a food shortage? Because as far as I am aware, someone else can always buy the land and farm it. Just like when a gas station closes, it doesn't mean their is a gas shortage, does it?

Farm supports should be stopped. They are only there for the lobbyists for large farmers like Ted Turner. Besides.what small business gets supports when they need help. These supports are not fair. But when has our government ever been fair. Congress will never change these supports--they rely on the money from the lobbyists. So we will see resort owners and other small businesses go under while millionaires continue to get large checks from the government.

Hear say: I hope someone at the Journal will investigate this hear say. The big agriculture business corporations have leveraged themselves so close to the wall just one bad year and they will fall like a house of cards. With falling prices this is looking like a bad year, if congress does not pass the Farm bill before January 2014 the house will fall; because big agriculture business corporations depend on the USDA money to cover their cash short fall. The gossip at farmer's morning coffee table is banks are starting to call in loans and the big guys don’t have the money. If people thing the housing collapse was big, just wait until there is NO FOOD on store shelves.
