GopherState - thanks for the good wishes. I have always believed that where there is a real estate problem to solve there is an opportunity. The mall is a beautiful trophy property and will again be full and a focal point of downtown New Ulm. With my own German heritage, I appreciate the Midwestern values and hospitality of the friendly people whom I have met here. What a nice place to visit and to raise a family -- good values, hard-working people who make this great country work, and no serious crime problems. This is the country my dearly departed grandfather fell in love with when he came to America from the German/Austrian border all alone at 19 years of age just before WW I. Thanks to all of you who have given me encouragement and suggestions in this venture. My grandfather never ran from a "nimrod" and neither will I.

Best of luck to you Douglas. Now, the question that we are all wondering: Why would you want to buy this mall and put yourself through all the hassle of having to deal with this nimrod? Run. Run fast!

to caring1: Sorry if I created some confusion. A liquor license is clearly not a requirement for an eating establishment. In this case, however, I have been negotiating with a company that will bring in pool tables and darts for tournaments if the restaurant serves alcohol. That is their requirement. What that would provide to a start up food vendor is a partner to help bring in business and more foot traffic for the mall. We hired a professional, who did environmental testing about a month ago. There is no "mold" problem in the mall. There is however, a great deal of moisture and horrible smell coming from one of the vacant spaces on the south side. Although a complaint was made to Code Enforcement, to my knowledge they have unfortunately not required Mr. Danielson to deal with the problem. The wall that was built was done to code and pursuant to a building permit. I hope I have addressed your concerns and no longer sound scary to you.

Doesn't Randy own Lola's too. And why if you ask for a restaurant in the mall must they have a liquor licenses and want pool tables???? I am glad and very happy to say Herberger's put new carpet in the front entrance, no longer smells like mole and the women's clothing area doesn't smell like cat urine anymore. I haven't been in the entrance thru the underground parking yet. Hopefully that was done too, mole is nasty. and with a daycare center in there too was not good. I hope none of this feuding ever affects the safety of the children, after some of what i have read here. You people sound scarey. Has anyone ever done a good building inspection on the mall? Check for environmental hazards like mole? How about safety inspections now that all these walls are going up.Building permits are nice, building inspections are nicer. And my last suggestion is tear it down for being perhaps unsafe (if found to be) and leave Herbergers there since it was there first.

Sad to say but no matter what anybody puts in that mall it will never work,It was doomed the day it was built,Maybe it's cause nobody wants to go up a ramp or stairs to go shopping,Just the way it is.

Thanks for all your suggestions. The mall definitely needs an eating establishment. If someone wants to open one and has a liquor license (either full liquor or beer and wine), I can team you up with a company that will bring in pool tables and darts and hold tournaments. Also, I can help you get favorable business financing and will work out lease terms to make it easy to start your business.

Hello, all. I am the new managing partner of the north 2/3 of the mall. Your comments here are quite interesting. On my latest visit during Oktoberfest I had a great time. Along with participating merchants, we gave away prizes, including a Kindle Fire HD and Joe Mauer and Adrian Peterson jerseys. Police Chief Myron Wieland drew the winners. My own heritage is German and Irish, and I appreciate the values and hard work of folks in this part of the country. Everyone in town, well, except for one, has been very friendly to me. That is greatly appreciated and I am working hard to improve the mall. All of you "Heart of New Ulm" walkers are welcome to come in from the cold and get some exercise. If you know someone looking for some space to lease, I have advertised in the Journal a $1000 reward for a referral that leads to a lease signing. Your comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks! I feel it was about time that someone stood up to Danielson and said enough is enough. Whenever one person stands up and says "wait a minute, this is wrong" it helps other people to do the same. I feel Jafvert has started this whole thing to finally go in the right direction and Danielson will get what he deserves. From what I have herd Jafvert is a Vietnam vet and a Marine, and if anyone will get it done it is a Marine. I salute you sir

This guy is a ticking timebomb and will do something worst soon. Like burning down the place or holding people hostage and demanding the other half of the mall owners pay him for his half of the mall at a over inflated price.

Hopefully the court puts him on probation and makes him go to drug rehab and anger management class.I don't think he has any tenants on his side because I think that Karate place moved out to. No heat no electricity no elevator and owner in jail.

How many suits is Danialson involved in now? How does this guy have money to pay out to all of these people? Does he like being a full time defendant?

middleclassworker: I think we pretty much agree what is going on here. Danielson has some real problems going on. By not showing up in court, he got himself arrested and is going to have another court hearing and probably a fine. How dumb is that when all he had to do was give back the property he took? And then he blames some criminal hierarchy in the city for his troubles. WTF?

Spectator, I forgot that Jafvert's employer just bought the north portion this year. My comments referred to the previous owner. Thank you for the correction.

Danielson is also the town drunk. There is a reason he acts like he does, ask his ex-wife as there are going through a divorce. He was run out of Sibley county for doing the same things he is doing in Brown county.

All, I would reserve any judgment and wait until the Judge hears the case in just a few months. I would also recommend that all interested sit in on the trial and review all documents that are public records.

middleclassworker: I apologize if you thought I slammed you. That was not my intent. Who is Jafvert's employer to which you refer? I understand that the ownership of the LLC that owns the mall changed sometime in around May and the new ownership is doing everything it can to improve the mall and pursue legal action against Danielson. Have they been involved in court actions in other cities? Respectfully, I really have done more than just read one article.

I think Danielson knows how to run the system and admits to that. He will play this out til the last straw. His background is terrible not only here but others counties he has resided. What comes around goes around, for some that time does not come soon enough. It is so sad that New Ulm could have a mall that was flourishing and a productive part of this community but because of loop holes or legalities and tremendous amounts of time in between court hearings for Danielson the properties he has come in contact with will be damaged maybe beyond recognition, at least in the Ballrooms case. So sad, so sad! This theft is ridiculous. It is made clear that he has admitted to taking those items. It is the law that if you steal something and that item does not belong to you it does not matter where the items is. What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong and at this point I give credit to city officials and the New Ulm Police Department to following through and taking a stance with him!

Spectator, the word around town is that there is plenty if blame to go around for both sides. I personally side a little more with Jafvert's side, but from what I hear, his employer is no stranger to the court system in other cities.

Don't just read one article and go slamming me. Do a little research.

We woukd be better off if both sides left town snd sold the mall to Runnings. (Tongue in cheek).

After reading the comments by people I am pleased to see that most people have used the truth to make an comment on this ordeal, and can see how Danielson has used this city and the people who live here to make money the wrong way for himself and screw everyone else and do his best to ruin their life's. People like Danielson are like leaches and try to*****the life out of people and the city to try to better their life. Well this time it isn't working and someone has finally stood up to him and he can't deal with that. His life here in New Ulm is over, and people are not going to take it anymore, so my hat is off to Jafvert for standing up to him and saying enough is enough.

re: from middleclassworker

"I'm glad that you two can use my tax dollars to bring your ongoing high school girl hissy fit into the law enforcement and court systems."

What? You two? Did you even read the article? Danielson took Jafvert's property and refused to return it. What if Danielson had stolen your property? It is not a hissy fit to report theft to the police. Danielson is wearing the black hat here. Who stole the property? Who refused to return the property when the owner requested its return? Who refused to return the property when requested to do so by the police? Who failed to appear in court? Who is going to have to face another court hearing? Ding, ding, ding, ding --- the answer is Danielson.
