I see--since the meeting wasn't focused on trivial educational matters, the boardroom was filled... with people concerned about whom we would play in our games prior to being humiliated at the state tournament.

A small mention that our test scores were favorable at the end of the article? Come on! Heck of a lot more important to me then who our hockey team competes against. My two boys are in youth hockey, but I get a kick of how many of my fellow hockey comrades think we are the Warroad of So. MN, hence a pack board room last night. Whether we join this new conference or not, its not going to change the fact that we still will be in the weakest conference and section in the entire state and get out hind-ends handed to us in St. Paul.

We packed the room at a school board meeting to show concerns about who our hockey team might have to skate against, WOW! My husband and I were athletes and our kids are currently involved in youth sports as well. We value what athletics taught us and what they are teaching our kids right now, but I sure hope the school board never puts the needs of athletics in front of academics. If this merger is a benefit to the school, then I sure hope we not bullied by a packed board room to only look at the needs for one sport.

Where are the priorities at? If an entire education meeting is focused on extracurricular sports, something is wrong.

If you have concerns about the educational situation then come to the board meetings and bring concerned people with you and have them express their concerns. Just like hockey boosters did. In other words, get off your can and go to the board meetings!

I think there are some people that need to realize that without sports test scores would go down. Sports are extremely important to some kids, important enough that the work hard In School to get good grades so they can play. I also feel that the hockey people in this town are trying to make their program better so they can not only get to state but compete when they get there. I'm glad to hear the hockey people stood up for what they believe in. Other activities should take note.

New Ulm should be exciting to play better teams again in Hockey, so maybe they won't get killed if they ever make it to State again. Just 15 years ago New Ulm played the likes of the Mankato's and other larger schools and competed just fine against them. What happened now?....no comptetion during the regular season? Are numbers down? Coaching? Bring on better teams...you have to play better teams to get better. What fun is it to go to State and get killed? Work your way up over time so then, when that opportunity comes again(State), New Ulm might be more competitive.

The board needs to make decisions that are in the best interest of the school district as a whole. If hockey is the casualty of the merger, a merger that has more pros than cons, then in my opinion its a no brainer.
