One correction: The city of Marshall also does not have four lane highway access. Marshall has a larger population than New Ulm.

Hutchinson and Willmar also are larger, and neither have a four lane (although Willmar has a four lane bypass, as does Marshall).

I would believe that more people than those that just live within one respective city would utilize a 4 laned highway 14.

Population of Lyon County: 25,891

Population of Brown County: 25,734 Population of Nicollet County: 32,820 Population of Blue Earth County: 64,384

Total potential population impacted by a 4 lane extension to New Ulm: 122,938.

I think those numbers are more relevant.

JR is correct here. You can't compare to a city in the far corner of the state like Marshall. At one time, New Ulm was bigger than those other cities, so this may have been a true statement at one time.

I could see Hutchinson benefiting from a 4-lane highway at some point, such as Highway 7 to the metro area and/or 15 to Saint Cloud. Highway 15 has a lot more traffic now than they did 20 years ago.

Highway 7 to Hutch should be a 4 lane highway. But the money they keep putting into the roundabouts could have been better spent making it a 4 lane highway.
